It’s been over six months that recreational marijuana use has been legal in Canada, and we’ve decided we quite like each other, and we’re not breaking up.
Over the last half-year, we’ve waded through the unfamiliarity of legalization, and some people are, understandably, still a bit confused with the buying process. Buying recreational cannabis is an entirely new experience, and the rollout wasn’t exactly straight forward.
If you haven’t yet exerted your Canadian rights and bought your first batch of green, we’ve put together a simple guide on where and how to buy weed in each province.
Buying Weed Online
All of the provinces, outside of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, have a government website where you can buy cannabis directly. In the case of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, while there is no official government site, residents of both provinces will be pleased to find many online private retailers in its place.
If you don’t want to leave your couch to get your fix, you’ll first need to create an account on the applicable website to verify your age, name and address. After cross-checking your information against a database, you’ll have access to hundreds of cannabis products categorized into brand, strain, how it’s grown, etc. When you find what you want, simply add it to your cart and check out.
Cannabis typically takes up to 5 business days to ship, depending on the circumstances. Once delivered, you will receive it in a discrete, nondescript package.
How Much Can You Buy and Restrictions
If you are looking to purchase dried flower cannabis products, you can typically choose between your choice of 1, 3.5, or 7 grams. Across the nation, the public possession limit caps at 30 grams to ensure that products aren’t being hoarded for resale.
If you’re buying seeds in the interest of growing your own weed, something to bear in mind is that most provinces and territories have a four-plants-per-household limit. The only provinces and territories where it is not permitted in any circumstance to grow your own are Nunavut, Quebec, and Manitoba.
